This was an interesting gig. It was for a company called Mass Event/S&H Leisure/Showman Events who one of my friends bought a lighting desk from who needed two/three people to do this event in Brighton that they had double booked themselves.
They helped load the van at there lockup and helped us set up everything at the venue and then left us to program and get ready for the event.
Lighting wise there was a long length of truss on crank stands with quite a few beam and some wash on, there were also some fixtures along the runway to the ring and where the fighters appeared out of there was some fabric flame jets and some Showtec Vertical foggers that were a nice effect, but I had to help Elliott build a fixture file for them just before we opened up that was a bit annoying!
My Main roles as the Sound Tech was to control the handheld microphone that the guy in the ring had and my main role was to play the entrance and exit tracks and also finding the entrance and exit tracks on hotel WiFi after being given a list of tracks with the people’s names on the load in and having to find around 60 tracks and cut them up to good starting points in a couple of hours while setting up and finding out the structure of the event since I had never done any event like this before. Luckily it was all ok and did not have any issues at all, it was just quite a stressed load in since the WiFi wasn’t that good!
After the event had finished we put everything back into its cases then to find out that the main loading doors had been locked since it was after midnight. But luckily we found a small lift that leads to a corridor where there was a fire door just around the corner that the hotel said we could open.
Overall it was a good gig and was definitely an experience!
