This year the salvation army was doing Robin Hood, this was my 4th year with them since I have been there from the beginning! This year I had 12 Radio mics, a full band: keys, drums, electric guitar, bass guitar, trumpet & trombone. I also had a Sennheiser EW300 G3 Handheld at the side of the stage that was used in some scenes. I had a wireless relay going backstage to the scene dock where the mic table and where some of the quick changes were so they could all hear what was going on.
This year I wanted to do something really cool. Since it was robin hood they were putting trees in the entrance and they wanted me to play some forest music with birds chirping etc. But I took it a step forward and made a soundscape either side since there is a ton of space under the raised seating I put 3 speakers either side (1 subwoofer) and had them mapped to different outputs on an X32 rack that was then routed through Qlab that I had programmed to randomly play a sound effect out a random speaker every 5 and 10 seconds. Here’s a video of it, you can’t really tell the full experience, but you’ll get an idea!
and heres some photos of the production.
